FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is digital drawing and what's the difference between it and traditional?
Digital drawing or digital painting is a type of drawing, where you make your work in a computational graphic program (like Photoshop, Corel Painter). The most common tool of digital drawing is the drawing tablet or interactive pen display.
If you have never heard about it, I think you would like to know how is it possible: In few words, with the facilities that a digital drawing tablet provides you can draw like you had been doing it on paper and with the graphic program's tools (like digital pencil, brush, eraser) you can make different textures.
What is a drawing tablet, and where can I get one?
Drawing tablet is a tool for computers that makes graphic works faster and easier. It connects to computer via USB port. It looks like a plastic board with different variables of sizes (from the very small A5 size to the large A3). Its height is around 1,5-2 centimeters. Tablets have hotkeys depending on its brand. These hotkeys stands to help fast and comfortable drawing. You can draw on the table with a special pen, what has eraser on its backside and a plastic nib on the other side.
What is a speed painting video?
Speed painting is a method of painting or illustration, when someone finishes a painting in a really short time (between 5-20 minutes). - Based on this, my speed painting videos could not be called speed painting videos, because those are speeded up videos. You might think I don't even know how does it called what I do but that's not true as every painter use this expression for these kind of videos. I think this name became popular because it's easier to type "speed painting" than "digitally captured speeded up painting video with musical background".
I like to draw, but im not pleased with my works. Where could I learn more?
It's hard to answer this question for me as I don't know anything about you or about your chances for drawing education at your region. The "drawing with the right side of your brain" is a kind of course that everyone can complete without any drawing skill, and it provides exceptional growth in alltogether 4 days. Sadly it's hard to spot those courses, which are worthless to complete because the leader of the class doesn't have enough experiences in drawing. The cheapest, but probably not the most effective if you search for pages on the internet where you can find good articles and drawing exercises for beginners or advanced drawers.
How long have you been dealing with drawing?
I always liked to draw and I've been drawing since my childhood (however I wouldn't concern that period as "deal with"). It's a hobby that I still continue practicing and I learn something new everytime when I start drawing.
Do you prefer paper and pencil or drawing tablet? Why?
I cannot oppose those with each other. Both of them have advantages and disadvantages. One of the traditional drawing's main advantage is that it's fast, and doesn't need much preparations. Maybe it's also easier than digital drawing, because you feel the paper under your hand, and you directly see what you are drawing. The surface of the drawing area is different from the digital tablet's, and it's more familiar. But then in digital drawing it's easier to record the process of the drawing then make a speed painting video of it. Together with, it is a must to mention the colors and gradients that can be bringed out digitally.
What kind of sizes and resolutions do you prefer?
The decent resolution is around 300 dpi in my opinion. If the painting is going to be printed, I sometime use even more. The size of the canvas is different, mostly I use 1920x1200 pixels sized canvas because this is the size of the largest wallpaper, so I don't have to enlarge (that way I avoid loss of quality).
